  • 1958 - Sammy Kershaw Born

     

  • 1980 - NBC premiered the TV movie "Harper Valley P.T.A.," which was based on Jeannie C. Riley's hit single.

     

  • 1982 - Dolly Parton, Ronnie Milsap, and the Oak Ridge Boys were the big winners at the 24th annual Grammy Awards.

     

  • 1987 - Reba McEntire won her first Grammy for "Whoever's In New England." Other winners at the 29th annual Grammy Awards included the Judds and Ronnie Milsap.

     

  • 1989 - Rosanne Cash's album "Greatest Hits 1979 - 1989" was released.

     

  • 1991 - Country legend Webb Pierce died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He's buried in Nashville's Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Born August 8th, 1921 Webb Michael Pierce was famous for his string of #1 hits in the 1950's and his flamboyant Nudie suits. Webb's biggest hits: "In the Jailhouse Now", "There Stands the Glass" and "I Ain't Never"

     

  • 1993 - Mary Chapin Carpenter, Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and the duo of Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart were the big winners at the 35th annual Grammy Awards.

     

  • 1995 - George Strait was number one on the country charts with "You Can't Make A Heart Love Somebody."
