Inductees for the 2015 class of the Country Music Hall of Fame include THE OAK RIDGE BOYS; JIM ED, MAXINE, and BONNIE BROWN; and GRADY MARTIN.
The COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION (CMA) announced the 2015 COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME inductees TODAY (3/25) during a ceremony at the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM’s rotunda. Country legend BRENDA LEE was on hand to announce the inductees.
Inductions were made in the following three categories: Modern Era, Veterans Era, and Recording and/or Touring Musician active prior to 1980. Candidates are considered eligible for induction to the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME into the Modern Era category twenty years after they first achieve National prominence and into the Veteran Era category forty years after they first achieve National prominence.
Modern Era inductee THE OAK RIDGE BOYS consist of members DUANE ALLEN, JOE BONSALL, RICHARD STERBAN, and WILLIAM LEE GOLDEN. The group was founded in 1943 and has multiple lineup changes before the current lineup joined in the 1960s and 70s. The current lineup has charted a string of hits including “Bobbie Sue,” “Thank God For Kids,” and perhaps their best known hit, “Elvira.”
Veteran Era inductee JIM ED BROWN and THE BROWNS formed as a sibling group in the early 1950s and are best known for their 1959 GRAMMY-nominated hit, “The Three Bells.” JIM ED continued his solo career after the disbanding of the sibling group and went on to score hits with “Pop A Top,” “Morning,” “Southern Lovin'” and many others. BROWN currently hosts two nationally syndicated Country radio shows and has previously hosted syndicated Country television shows.
Recording and/or Touring Musician active prior to 1980 inductee GRADY MARTIN played guitar on hits such as MARTY ROBBINS’ “El Paso,” LORETTA LYNN’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and SAMMI SMITH’s “Help Me Make It Through The Night.” His career spanned nearly fifty years.
The induction ceremonies for THE OAK RIDGE BOYS, JIM ED BROWN and THE BROWNS, and GRADY MARTIN will be held at the COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND MUSEUM in the CMA THEATER later this year. Details of the ceremony will be revealed at a later date.
