Bear Radio Legend T.G. Sheppard will celbrate his 69th birthday on stage in Fort Smith Arkansas Saturday Night.
“Yeah, it’s going to be more than a concert on Saturday,” T.G. said during a recent telephone interview. “I think people are turning it into a big birthday celebration.” “Oh, I’m too many years old,” he joked. “I have been doing this a long time, but I still love it and enjoy it as much as I ever have. Every day is a blessing and a gift.”
Sheppard said he learned much about music and performance art while touring with Elvis Presley in the 1970s. He and the King of Rock and Roll became close friends on and away from the concert stage. “I like to say that I even put Elvis to bed,” Sheppard said with a laugh. “He and I would stay up really, really late watching TV and listening to music — Elvis loved to listen to music. I’d fall asleep and wake up at 5 a.m.”
“Man, those memories just cut to me,” he said. “I’m so fortunate to have memories like that.” “I’ve finally got to that point in my career where it’s about enjoying yourself on the stage,” Sheppard added. “I even talk about Elvis and answer questions from the audience at my shows, and everyone seems to enjoy that.”
